What Is Employment Law ?

Employment law regulates the relationship between employers and employees. It governs what employers can expect from employees, what employers can ask employees to do, and employees’ rights at work.

A properly set up HR system will include several different tools to help guide the business, managers and staff.

Policies and procedures are the best tools available to businesses. I like to use the analogy that these two documents are your rule book and your play book.

The policies set the guidelines expected in the workplace (without changing the minimum standards required). The procedures make sure that everyone knows how to handle the situations that arise. 

When used consistently these provide the basics to help you manage the employees in the business and protect you against possible legal action. They are not the only documents though.

One of the biggest weaknesses in a business is the hiring process. Human Rights Legislation protects job seekers in the recruiting and provide strict guidelines that must be followed. Having a complete hiring system is the best defense and is one of our specialties. We can work with you to develop the system that works best for you and assist in training managers in how to conduct proper interviews.

Set your new employees up for success by properly onboarding them. Utilize the other employees in the organization to help.

By definition is the process of ensuring that a set of activities and outputs meets and organization’s goals in an effective and efficient manner. When employees know how they are contributing to the organization, where they are going with regards to promotions and what skills they can improve, they are more motivated.  Performance management isn’t just sitting down once per year and going through a checklist.
